About the program:
The Ballajura Community College Music Excellence Program offers an exciting and progressive music program with specialist music instruction for students in years seven to ten. The program includes class music, instrumental studies and ensemble performance.
The program encourages students to enjoy making music through engaging fully in the practical and theoretical aspects of this subject.
Students enjoy the benefits of performing alongside musically talented peers in a contemporary performing arts centre which is especially suited to instrumental music.
The Course:
Students may enrol in the program as:
- Continuing Instrumental (Continuing from the Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) primary school program) on flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, electric guitar, bass guitar, percussion (drums), classical guitar or vocals.
- Beginning Instrumental (Places offered according to availability). Places may be offered in flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, electric guitar, bass guitar, percussion (drums), classical guitar or vocals.
- Private Instrumental (Enrolled in class music and ensemble only. This option is only for students who study an instrument outside of school with a qualified private tutor).
Music Ensembles:
All students in the Music Excellence Program are required to participate in an ensemble. Students who are selected for beginner instruments will attend ensemble when their instrumental skills reach the required standard. Our ensembles include:
- Junior Contemporary Band
- Senior Contemporary Band
- Classical Guitar Ensemble
- Choir
- Junior Concert Band
- Senior Concert Band
Performance as part of an ensemble provides students with the opportunity for practical and creative expression. Ensemble performances are our most effective way of sharing the talent and achievements of our students and are presented in a variety of settings including festivals, concerts, and school-based performances. Ensembles rehearse for one hour per week before or after school, and in some instances during a lunch break. Students enrolled in class music who are learning an instrument privately are required to attend ensemble as this contributes to their class music mark.
