Learning Inclusively Nurturing Knowledge & Skills
At Ballajura Community College, the LINKS program is a specialised initiative designed for Year 7 students who are at academic risk (SAER). It is tailored to meet a broad range of student needs, addressing both academic challenges and emotional development.
With a strong focus on pastoral care, LINKS creates a nurturing environment where students are supported and encouraged to thrive both academically and personally.
Participation in this program is by invitation only, and students can opt-in based on their unique needs.
Program Approach
The LINKS program employs a variety of teaching strategies, including explicit instruction and multiple opportunities for skill acquisition, all with a strong emphasis on engagement.
Our goal is to provide each student with as many opportunities as possible to grasp new concepts and build confidence in their learning journey.

How the Program Works
Students in the LINKS program are assigned one teacher for core subjects—Maths, English, Science, and Humanities and Social Sciences (MESH). This continuity fosters strong relationships, enabling teachers to focus on each student’s individual learning journey and pastoral care needs. By establishing trust and a supportive classroom environment, students feel more confident in seeking help and engaging with their studies.
Our carefully selected LINKS teaching staff bring not only a deep understanding of their subject areas but also the skills needed to support students with diverse learning styles. The team employs 21st-century teaching methods using interactive whiteboards, information technology and other educational tools to enhance engagement.
Tailored Learning
The LINKS program provides differentiated learning, allowing for a personalised approach that meets the specific needs of each student. While the curriculum is aligned with the West Australian Curriculum, the focus is on helping students achieve C-grade standards by spending more time on fewer concepts. This approach allows students to practice, master, and apply the skills they need for long-term success.
The LINKS program offers a unique and supportive learning environment where students can build confidence, enhance their skills, and experience personal growth.
