Homework
A strong sense of personal responsibility is critical to successful learning and homework is a vital part of the learning process. Parent workshops are run at the College each year to advise parents on the best way that this can be done. From Year 7 students should begin to develop study skills through homework activities which may consist of completing work from class, assignments and projects, pre-reading and extra consolidation or extension.
Students should get into the practice of spending time in their study area at home at least five or six times a week. The following are guide times only and may vary according to a student’s ability and learning needs:
Year 7: | Up to 1 hour per night |
Year 8 and 9: | 1 to 1 1/4 hours per night |
Year 10: | 1 1/4 to 2 hours per night |
Year 11 and 12: | 2 – 3 hours per night |
All students should learn to use a diary. These are a required item for each student. Parents are asked to check diaries regularly, as some teachers use them to communicate areas of strength and weakness. Regular, organised use of a diary assists the development of sound study habits.
Homework Club
Homework Club runs every Wednesday after school during term from 3.15 pm to 4.15 pm in the Library. Staff volunteer their time to provide support and assistance to students in completing their homework. Students can use the time to ask questions, finish work and use the Library resources.
