On Wednesday June 20 Ballajura Community College welcomed Ballajura Primary School; Alinjarra Primary School; Illawarra Primary School; South Ballajura Drumming Club and the South Ballajura Signing Club to the College for Choirfest 2018. This is the 8th year Choirfest has been running as a showcase of the musical talent in our College and in the local primary schools. More than 270 children performed this year.
Choirfest is one of the highlights of the school calendar and an opportunity for our community to see our wonderful Choir, the Ballatonix, Senior Band and music students perform for the Ballajura community. This year was no exception with an outstanding program including three songs as part of the All School’s Chorus; the final song “This is me” bringing down the house.
Year 12 Holly Ballam opened Choirfest with a wonderful rendition of the national anthem, and together with Brayden Cockroft, did an amazing job as our Masters of Ceremonies.
Our guest performers this year were Holly Ballam and Year 11 student Daniella Peralta. Holly sang “Rise Up” by Andra Dray and an original composition, “Last of me”. Danielle performed “Czardus” by Vittorio Monti on saxophone.
The day was a wonderful example of the wealth of talent we have at the College and the talent coming to the College through our local intake primary schools.
Our sincere thanks to past student Patrick Boyle who took on the role as sound technician and his help overseeing our Year 11 and 12 Certificate III Music Industry students.
Thanks also to our Year 9 peer mentors, who did a wonderful job assisting the primary school students.
A huge thank you to Pavithra Rodrigo, BCC Music Coordinator, for all the time and effort she put in to ensure that the day ran smoothly, and to School of Instrumental Music Services teachers Claire Nankivell and Elna Kriel who prepared our students so wonderfully.
Congratulations also to the Choirfest organising committee and the wonderful music teachers and assistants from the local primary schools. These include All Choirs leader, Asha Goves from Ballajura Primary School, Helen Southerland from Alinjarra Primary, Silvanna Ferrara from Illawarra Primary, Natalie Harney, Jenny Quigley and Jane Green from South Ballajura Signing Club and Marianne Rowe from South Ballajura Drumming Club.
